CLARKE\n\nBill has 20 years of experience as researcher in bioengineering processes for solid organic waste.  He has been one of the pioneers in intensive landfill based treatment processes\, publishing extensively on leach-bed technology and the solubilisation of solid organic waste. His research group was one of the first to characterise the microbial colonisation and degradation processes for solid organic waste. He is Professor and Remondis Chair in the Schools of Civil and Chemical Engineering at the University of Queensland. Professor Clarke is also the Director of the Centre for Solid Waste Bioprocessing\, a collaboration between Remondis Pty Ltd\, leading Australian environmental services company\, and University of Queensland. The Centre has 3 research programs: Landfill Research\, Bio-covers and Utilisation of Waste in the Resource Industry. Bill has over 100 journal and conference publications. He is on the Editorial Board for Waste Management\, the leading journal in this field. He is also active in consulting\, particularly in assessing the energy value of organic resources. He teaches in the Schools of Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering programs solid waste management and environmental systems modelling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRaffaello COSSU\n\nRaffaello is full Professor of Solid Waste Management at the University of Padova and Dean of the Faculty of Environmental and Land Planning Engineering at the same University. He is currently the Editor in chief of Waste Management\, International Scientific Journal on waste management edited by Elsevier\, Amsterdam. Past President and currently a member of the Managing Board of IWWG (International Waste Working Group)\, the main international scientific association in the field of waste management. He is the president of GITISA (Italian Group of Sanitary Environmental Engineering). He has delivered presentations in over 50 seminars and 100 congresses on waste management and controlled landfills worldwide. He is author of over 150 scientific papers and five international books on waste management\, printed by leading publishing houses (Academic Press\, Elsevier\, EF and Spon). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nToshihiko MATSUTO\n\nToshihiko is Professor of Solid Waste Disposal\, in the Graduate School of Engineering at Hokkaido University\, Japan. He has been a member of the Organizing committee for ICLRS (Intercontinental Landfill Research Symposium) since 2000\, IWWG Managing Board since 2007\, an Associate Editor of Waste Management journal since 2009\,  a member of the Organizing Comittee for IWWG-ARB (Asia Branch of IWWG) since 2013\, and vice president of Japan Solid Waste Management Expert (JSWME) since 2010. His main fields of interest are: optimization of integrated solid waste management system\, system analysis and evaluation of solid waste management facilities. His research focuses on diverse topics such as landfilling\, thermal treatment\, biological treatment\, collection both in experimental and theoretical manner\, and various evaluation techniques (LCA\, cost benefit analysis\, risk assessment\, environmental assessment\, public attitude). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichael NELLES\n\nMichael is full professor of Waste Management and Material Flow at the faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Science\, University of Rostock\, Germany. He is the Scientific Director of the German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ) in Leipzig and Member of Scientific Advisory Boards for different national and international conferences and journals. He is author of over 300 articles\, chapters in books and journals. His research activity is oriented to: fundamental and applied aspects of waste management\, with focus on technological\, environmental and economic aspects to mechanical\, biological and thermal treatment systems of waste and biomass in different recycling and recovery routes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRainer STEGMANN\n\nRainer was Professor from 1982 to 1990 at the Institute of Environmental Protection and from 1991 to 2008 Head of the Institute of Waste Management at the Technical University of Hamburg\, Germany. He retired in March 2008. He is one of the prominent researchers in the field of waste management and provided in particular fundamental scientific contributions on sustainable landfilling\, anaerobic digestion\, biogas generation and control\, treatment of contaminated soil. He co-ordinated several international and national research projects\, and was member of the environmental advisory board of Shanks\, England. From 2009 until 2011 he was director of the R3C Research Center at the Nanyang University of Technology\, Singapore\, for which he is now scientific advisor. He is co-organiser of several national and international conferences and has published more than 300 scientific papers and several books. Since 2008 he has been the chairman of IWWG (International Waste Working Group). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJianguo LIU\n\nJianguo Liu is a full professor and vice dean of the School of Environment\, Tsinghua University\, and deputy director of the Key Laboratory for Solid Waste Management and Environment Safety\, Ministry of Education of China. His research fields include sustainable landfilling and anaerobic digestion of MSW\, reactive solidification/stabilization of soil contaminated by toxic organic compounds\, and leaching-based environmental assessment of beneficial reutilization of solid waste. \nSYMPOSIUM STRUCTURE\nThe Symposium is structured in oral sessions\, a poster session and technical tours. Oral presentations are organized in five parallel tracks\, for a total of 38 sessions and 7 workshops.\nWorkshops are primarily addressed to experts and seeded by a selected number of introductory lectures delivered in order to open discussion between participants.\nPoster papers will be presented in an appropriate session\, which will always be accessible to Symposium delegates\, and discussed on Monday\, Tuesday and Wednesday from 15:50 to 16:20. \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n
